Call for Contributions-The Climate Analytics

The  Climate Analytics and the Institute for Transformations of Human-Environment Systems at Humboldt University Berlin are delighted to invite you to a workshop on justice in finance for climate change adaptation and loss and damage in Berlin.

This workshop seeks to promote exchange between academics, decision-makers, representatives from NGOs, and think tanks. A particular spotlight will be on bridging theory and practice. They are inviting contributions on a broad range of issues, including the normative considerations in the distribution of adaptation and loss and damage finance, empirical analyses of existing distribution channels, on-the-ground experiences in accessing adaptation and loss and damage finance as well as donor perspectives.

Relevant themes include: 

1. Eligibility and access modalities for climate change adaptation and loss and damage finance.

2. Current distribution and beneficiaries of international adaptation finance.

3. How to prioritize the most vulnerable including who is.

4. Role of funding criteria and how to measure them.

5. Assigning responsibilities for loss and damage.

6. Measuring and responding to non-economic losses.

7. Procedural justice for governing adaptation and loss and damage finance.

8. Linkages of adaptation and loss and damage finance with capacity building.

9. Considering the risk of maladaptation in adaptation finance.

10. Commonalities and differences between finance for adaptation and for loss and damage from a normative perspective

The event will be conducted in a hybrid format allowing both in-person and virtual participation. The event is free of charge and will foster opportunities for critical exchange of ideas. We will consider publishing selected contributions in a journal special issue. 

Interested candidates who are into academics will need;

– An abstract of no more than 500 words for a proposed presentation 

– A brief statement of no more than 200 words why your contribution is policy-relevant,

– Simply get in touch with them. They are curious to learn about your intended contribution. 

Please submit your abstract by 30 September 2023 to team@adjust-climate.org.

Notification of acceptance can be expected no later than 15 November 2023
